Kyuhyun is no stranger to heartrending ballads. “You ordered coffee, but you’re not interested…your heart is already somewhere else, and as we started talking about him, you finally laughed,” the Super Junior member echoes in his new solo single, “Coffee,” which finds him wrestle with unrequited attraction for an old friend and a wavering love confession.
With “Coffee,” Kyuhyun welcomes a distinct tempo tinged with nostalgic hope, a contrast to his ordinary melancholic ballads. The new song comes with the participation of vetted songwriter and composer KENZIE, who wrote and compose two of Kyuhyun’s most iconic ballads, “At Gwanghwamun” and “A Million Pieces.”
For Kyuhyun, “Coffee” becomes the spring edition of his 2021 PROJECT: 季 (Season), a series that began last summer and which finds the singer mark each season with a new song. The new single appears in the seasonal project alongside “Dreaming,” “Daystar,” and “Moving On.”
“Coffee” is out now via Label SJ and SM Entertainment to stream and download, here. Attached to the single, a visual for the spring-themed song was released. The music video stars Gong Myung and Chae Soo Bin, who helped tell the story of an old lover’s farewell in “Moving On.” Now, the stars return to further unfold the couple’s past and share the early beginnings of blooming attraction and the despair of unspoken love.
