Post Malone Dominates 2020 Billboard Music Awards, BTS Performs from Korea’s Incheon Airport and Billie Eilish Scores Top Billboard 200 Album

  • The 2020 BBMAs was hosted by Kelly Clarkson with no live audience, the event featured in-person musical performances by Alicia Keys, Sia, Khalid, Garth Brooks, Doja Cat, and more.

Post Malone set the tone for artists at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards after winning nine trophies, including the coveted Top Artist honor and Top Male Artist award.

The socially distanced affair held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night saw special in-person musical performances by Alicia Keys, Sia, Khalid, Post Malone, Garth Brooks, Doja Cat, John Legend, and among others including Brandy marking her debut on the BBMAs stage with her B7 medley, and the return of En Vogue on their 30th anniversary to sing their 1992 anthem “Free Your Mind”. Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the event had no live audience. The BBMAs were originally scheduled to air on April 29 but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Following Post Malone, Khalid took home five awards, including Top R&B artists, while Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus trail at third for most wins for their hit song “Old Town Road”.

Billie Eilish was honored for Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, and her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? received the award for Top Billboard 200 Album.

International sensation BTS offered a special performance of their chart-topping single “Dynamite” straight from Korea at Incheon Airport. The group was honored with the fan-voted category for Top Social Artist, reigning the category for four years in a row.

Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny took home two BBMAs for Top Latin Artist and Top Latin Album. The singer-songwriter made his inaugural BBMAs performance debut of “Yo Perreo Sola” next to Ivy Queen, and offered a message of hope following his win.

Rapper and social activist Killer Mike received the first Billboard Change Maker Award for his active contribution to the community by speaking truth and power through music and donating time, money and influence to improve the lives of others. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms presented the award to Killer Mike at the historic African American Panoramic Experience Museum in Atlanta, Georgia. Cher made an appearance to honor Country legend Garth Brooks with the ICON Award.  

Kanye West scored four BBMAs including Top Gospel album for Jesus is King.
