Cory Asbury‘s GRAMMY-nominated song “Reckless Love” is heading to the big screen. Paramount Pictures and DeVon Franklin (Breakthrough, The Star) will produce the film that will follow the love story between Asbury and his wife Anna, who live in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and have four children, according to Deadline.
The pitch came from J. Mills Goodloe (To All The Boys: PS I Still Love You, Everything, Everything) with Israel Houghton serving as executive producer with Ashley Brucks and Alex Rosario overseeing the project on behalf of the studio and Katarina Hicks overseeing for Franklin Entertainment.
“The film is about surrender, about letting go and falling into the reckless love of God,” shared Asbury on social media. “It follows the story of a broken young man who finds God and family at the cost of well… everything. And my wife is the hero, not me.”
He ended his statement saying, “Fast forward to 2019 — my sabbatical year. The Father was doing such an incredible work of healing in my heart, unraveling years of brokenness and wrong thinking. In the midst of it, I kept praying for a mouthpiece, a platform, some way to blast the message He was writing in me to the world. I was hoping for a song or a sermon, but He saw something much bigger. DeVon called to let me know he’d found the perfect writer — J. Mills Goodloe. It all made sense. The film was the vehicle God wanted to use to get the message of His love to the world.”
Asbury’s “Reckless Love” topped Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart for 18 weeks in 2018. The track was nominated for a GRAMMY in 2019 for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
Franklin is a NY Times best-selling author and preacher and produced the inspirational drama Breakthrough starring Chrissy Metz, the animated holiday film The Star, and Miracles From Heaven. His upcoming projects include a biopic about multi-platinum gospel singer Kirk Franklin and Flamin’ Hot, the Eva Longoria-directed biopic about the creator of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
