An exclusive report from Variety reports that a new female-centric “Star Wars” series is in development at Disney Plus. The co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the Netflix series “Russian Doll” Leslye Headland will be at the helm.
Although no set details yet about the plot, Variety reported that it will take place in a different part of the “Star Wars” timeline than the other projects.
Headland has directed episodes of “Russian Doll” which earned 13 Emmy Awards nominations. Headland began writing and directing the “Seven Deadly Plays” series.
Disney Plus has had success with “Star Wars” projects. “The Mandalorian” became a breakout hit and an upcoming docuseries will be released on May 4. A live-action series about Obi-Wan Kenobi is also in the works, despite production setbacks. Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role of Obi-Wan. Another live-action series starring Diego Luna as his “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor is also being developed.
