- The animated story of a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise while seeking revenge in Edo-period Japan is coming to Netflix.
Netflix has greenlit the animated series Blue Eye Samurai created by American writer and producer Michael Green with Amber Noizumi. The project is the first of many to come from Green for the streamer after signing an overall television and film deal.
“Our story is a larger-than-life action-adventure that takes place 400 years ago, yet ‘Blue Eye Samurai’s’ themes are of the moment and the inspiration is deeply personal,” said Green and Noizumi. “We are grateful for Netflix’s passion for this story and for their bold vision for sophisticated animated drama.”
Blue Eye Samurai is an action animated series that follows a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise while seeking revenge in Edo-period Japan.
Green’s career in television includes noteworthy credits for American Gods for Starz, Raising Dion for Netflix, and NBC’s Heroes and Kings. He also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming films Disney’s Jungle Cruise, Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, and among other titles that include James Mangold’s Logan.
Green and Noizumi will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Jane Wu (Gold Mountain, Jackie Chan Adventures) will be supervising director and a series producer. Erwin Stoff will also executive produce the series for the streamer.
