- AMC, Regal, and more theaters are setting statements regarding face masks.
As movie theaters begin to reopen, many have begun to assure audiences about safety procedures that will be put in place to keep them safe.
AMC Theatres has been the most talked about during the pandemic due to being on the brink of bankruptcy and their feud with Universal but they’re not out of the headlines yet. The movie chain had announced it wouldn’t require masks ad it welcomes audiences back, but the push back came immediately after the announcement causing AMC to reverse their decision.
“This announcement prompted an intense and immediate outcry from our customers, and it is clear from this response that we did not go far enough on the usage of masks,” the company said. “At AMC Theatres, we think it is absolutely crucial that we listen to our guests. Accordingly, and with the full support of our scientific advisors, we are reversing course and are changing our guest mask policy. As we reopen theaters, we now will require that all AMC guests nationwide wear masks as they enter and enjoy movies at our theaters. The speed with which AMC moved to revise our mask policies is a reflection of our commitment to the safety and health of our guests.”
As AMC received backlash, Regal shared that they would require customers to wear masks. Other movie theater chains reopening will also require masks.
Movie theaters have been one of the most affected businesses because of closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the reopenings may not be a sign of hope as studios, including Warner Bros. Tenet, pushed back their releases as COVID-19 cases have been rising.
