Hoorays in Who-ville! NBC is bringing the cherished classic Dr. Seuss tale to the stage with the holiday special Dr. Seuss The Grinch Musical! to air on December 9 on NBC.
“In what has been an extremely challenging year for us all, it is an honor to bring some holiday cheer into viewers’ homes this December,” Morrison said in a statement. “My wish is to bring some Who-ville magic to this holiday season and, while the pandemic presents some challenges in bringing a stage production to life, we are excited to present a unique version of this seasonal favorite in a new creative and imaginative way.”
Morrison is best known for his role in Ryan Murphy’s Glee, as well as his Broadway performances in Footloose, Hairspray, and The Light in the Piazza. More recently, Morrison has starred as J.M. Barrie in the Broadway musical Finding Neverland and was a guest star on The Good Wife, Grey’s Anatomy, and American Horror Story: 1984.
The stage production is based on Dr. Seuss’s popular book How the Grinch Stole Christmas and tells the story of a reclusive creature Grinch who attempts to steal Christmas from the Whos in Who-ville while disguised as Santa Claus. Much to his wonder on Christmas morning, the Whos were at peace and celebrated the holiday with a heartwarming display of joy and love, which saw the Grinch’s cold small heart grow three sizes that day.
Denis O’Hare (Big Little Lies) will also star as the Grinch’s loyal companion old Max, Booboo Stewart (Descendants 3) as young Max, and newcomer Amelia Minto (The Lost Girls) will star as Cindy-Lou Who.
Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical! is set to air on December 9 at 8 PM ET/PT on NBC.
