While there was already a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot announce previously, a new project based on the Disneyland attraction is in the works with Margot Robbie starring. Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson is also onboard the project which is still under wraps.

The previously announced project comes from Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin which Karen Gillan is rumored to star in.

Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce both the Elliott/Mazin project and this new Robbie/Hodson project.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Disney’s biggest franchises grossing over $4.5 billion across five feature films. The movies were fronted by Johnny Depp who will not appear in the new projects. Disney hopes the new projects will revive the series.

Hodson has penned Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and DC’s The Flash, which has received attention with the possible return of Michael Keaton as Batman, and Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Robbie recently starred in Bombshell, I, Tonya, and Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood receiving Oscar nominations for her roles in the Bombshell and I, Tonya. She will appear next in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sequel.

Robbie is repped by CAA, Management 360, AMM and attorney Jeff Bernstein of Jackoway Austen. Hodson is repped by Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham
