Lucy Liu is set to star in the leading role in Shana Goldberg-Meehan’s multi-camera workplace comedy pilot at ABC.
The project, formerly known as Bossy and Kids Matter Now, will also be produced by Liu. She will play Devin, described as the fierce and powerful head of Shelter, a large and successful modern furniture company. She is a force and is unfamiliar with failure. But when she adopts a baby she is ill-prepared for the task of parenting and feels at a complete loss as to how to be a mom.
The pilot will begin production once it is safe to do so. It was one of ABC’s shows that was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down Hollywood. Rebel starring Katey Sagal and Home Economics starring Topher Grace will also plan to shot their pilots once production can resume.
Liu previously co-starred in the CBS drama Elementary and the CBS All Access anthology series Why Women Kill. If the pilot is picked up, it would mark a return to broadcast TV for the actress.
She appeared in the hit Charlie’s Angels franchise, Kill Bill, and recently in the Netflix film Set It Up. Liu has also spent time behind the camera directing episodes for New Amsterdam and Why Women Kill.
She is repped by ICM, Framework Entertainment, and Schreck Rose.
The pilot is written and executive produced by Goldberg-Meehan. Christine Gernon will be directing. CBS Television Studios and 20th Century Fox Television will produce.
