Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger is set to pick up a Viking axe in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
The Major League Baseball MVP and self-proclaimed video game nerd completed the motion capture, voice acting, and face modeling for his character Otta Sluggasson, a Dane with a knack for hitting rocks very very far.
“I’m excited. I love video games, so when I heard I had the opportunity to be a character in a big video game, I was excited, I really was,” Bellinger told ESPN. “I’m kind of a video game nerd. My brother and I played Assassin’s Creed back in the day and used to love it. The graphics are so realistic. It’s a game that will take up a lot of your time.”
Players will be able to encounter the unique cameo in the game’s story mode. “You got to beat me in the challenge to advance to the next place,” he added. “My name is Otta Sluggasson – it translates to something like ‘power hitter’ or ‘big hitter’ or something like that. It was super exciting when I was doing the filming for it, and I got to swing a bat or a stick or an ax, so it was super natural to me.”
Bellinger announces the news of his cameo following the Dodgers victory at the 2020 World Series over Tampa Bay Rays. He has played with the team since 2017 and has earned the titles of Rookie of the Year in 2017 and Most Valuable Player in 2019.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to release on November 10, 2020 on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game is also coming to PlayStation 5 on November 12, when the new console launches.
