Lana Condor has signed on to star in the rom-com with a sci-fi twist, Moonshot. The movie is in development at HBO Max with Greg Berlanti producing.
The movie is set in a future where Mars is terraformed and colonized by the best humanity has to offer. Two very different college students wind up joining forces and sneak onboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to be united with their significant others.
Condor will play Sophie, a focused and buttoned-up college student who decides to move to Mars with her boyfriend Calvin.
Chris Winterbauer will direct from a screenplay that will be penned by Max Taxe.
Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will produce via Berlanti Productions, along with Jill McElroy and Jenna Sarkin of Entertainment 360. Mike McGrath of Berlanti Productions will serve as an executive producer.
Berlanti Productions has been working with HBO Max for four films. The first was UnPregnant and Moonshot will be the second. Berlanti will also produce he streamer’s adaptation of the New York Times best-selling young-adult novel The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.
Condor is best known for her role as Lara Jean in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its sequel and will appear in the third and final installment To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean.
