'La Reina del Sur' Renewed for Third Season

Telemundo‘s La Reina del Sur will return for a third season with Kate del Castillo (Bad Boys for Life, The 33, Ingobernable, Weeds, All About Nina) reprising her role as Teresa Mendoza.

The news was revealed during NBCUniversal Upfront which highlighted the network’s hit shows.

“Telemundo continues to be the market leader serving the diverse media appetite of today’s Hispanics. ‘La Reina del Sur’ exemplifies our commitment to pushing boundaries, revealing contemporary storytelling and producing premium content designed for ambicultural Latinos who crave cutting-edge narratives across all platforms,” said Ronald Day, Executive Vice President of Entertainment at Telemundo. “After the worldwide success of the first two seasons, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of this iconic series. We’re excited to invite our viewers to join the next chapter in Teresa Mendoza’s life journey and the powerful story brought to life by the talented Kate del Castillo.”

“Teresa Mendoza has always received tremendous response from her fans and I’m thrilled to be able to once again be part of this legendary series and bring them the new season that they have been asking for,” added Kate del Castillo. “Teresa Mendoza’s character gets even more interesting with each chapter of her life, continually teaching me new things along the way. I’m excited to see what surprises Teresa has in store for us this time.”

The return of “La Reina del Sur” comes at a time when Telemundo continues to shape a new era in Hispanic media with premium content exclusively made for Latinos living in the US looking for culture-centric stories that are both American and Latino. Telemundo’s original productions connect with this growing audience and relate to their reality through powerful storylines and characters, as well as news and sports content, that are relevant to their American journey.

Telemundo has been the leading Spanish-language network in weekday prime time for three consecutive years. Telemundo is now the only media company that delivers the young Latino consumer that marketers want to reach across all platforms. Most recently, Telemundo ranked as the #1 network in YouTube regardless of language; the #1 broadcast network in social engagement regardless of language; the #1 provider of Spanish-language streaming content with more than 3,000 hours of content in NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock; and the #1 Hispanic brand producing culture-centric content for Latinos in the recently launched mobile platform Quibi.
