- Headlined by Katy Perry, the iconic Belgian Tomorrowland Festival will bring the energy and unique experience of the event straight to homes worldwide as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.
For one weekend only, the dazzling and iconic Tomorrowland Festival will open its doors to all corners of the globe in a digital experience headlined by Katy Perry.
The EDM fest was not immune to the coronavirus pandemic impact that resulted in the cancellation of the in-person event, which draws attendees each year from all over the world to its home in Boom, Belgium.
While the 16th edition of Tomorrowland is scheduled to resume in the summer of 2021, the event’s co-founder Michiel Beers has found a digital home for the event to replicate the same experience and energy of Tomorrowland at home.
Tomorrowland Around the World will provide an interactive experience from eight stages and with over 60 artists against a backdrop of the world’s best technology in 3D-design, special effects, laser shows and more. The digital festival is scheduled for July 25 and 26, 2020, and Perry will be performing her hits and new songs from her soon-to-release studio album “Smile”.
“I’ve always wanted to be a part of the fun of Tomorrowland, and have been following the amazing innovation, technology, and invention that this festival has always been about for a long time,” said Perry in a statement. “I’m so glad to be a part of this version, and I hope my set makes you smile.”
Perry does not fall under the EDM category, but she has worked with many of the genre’s biggest names, including Zedd, Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Oliver Heldens and many others. Pop artist Dua Lipa also performed on Tomorrowland’s stage back in 2018, as well as pop singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha in 2019.
“Since we started this project and all the ideas came together, we immediately felt an enormous energy and lots of positivity from everybody involved,” said Beers. “For us it’s a bit re-inventing the festival experience, but we truly believe that we can bring the spirit of Tomorrowland and entertainment at the highest level to people and homes around the globe.”
Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, NERVO, Oliver Heldens, Steve Aoki, VER:WEST, ANNA, Dixon, Modestep, Ran-D, B Jones, Fedde Le Grand, Solardo, Frank Mellemans and many others are part of the festival’s lineup.
“Tickets for the festival notoriously sell out within minutes – millions of people try to purchase tickets each year. But now, everyone has the opportunity to attend and be a part of it at a fraction of the price,” Beers said. “Plus, the digital festival is open for everyone, without borders or age-limits.”
