Justin Bieber will be returning to the MTV VMAs stage for the first time in six years. Bieber last appeared in 2015 when he performed his popular hit, “What Do You Mean?” The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on September 12 at 8 p.m. ET and in the U.K. on September 13 at 9 p.m. BST on MTV.
The singer/songwriter leads the nominations in three of the top categories, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Pop. He stars in the music video for the DJ Khaled and Drake track “Popstar,” which is nominated for Video of the Year and Best Direction, while “Peaches,” which features Daniel Caesar and Giveon, is up for Best Collaboration, Best Pop, and Best Editing. He is nominated also for Best Cinematography for “Holy,” his track with Chance The Rapper – is nominated.
Megan Thee Stallion follows in nominations with six nods. Several artists are tied for the third spot with five nominations, including Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Drake, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, and BTS.
Doja Cat is set to host the ceremony.
