- Halle Berry will star in Roland Emmerich's 'Moonfall' alongside Josh Gad.
Halle Berry is joining the cast of sci-fi space movie Moonfall, alongside Josh Gad. The film will be directed by Roland Emmerich.
The story centers around a mysterious force knocking the moon from its orbit around Earth, which sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. In response, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space to land on the lunar surface and save Earth from annihilation.
Berry’s character will be a NASA astronaut-turned-administrator whose last space mission may hold a clue to an impending catastrophe. Co-star Gad will portray a scientific genius who found out that the moon has fallen out of its orbit.
Emmerich will direct the movie from a script he wrote with co-writers Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen.
Production plans to start this fall in Montreal but remains tentative due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lionsgate plans to release Moonfall in 2021.
Lionsgate bought the North American rights from AGC in November.
Emmerich is producing under his Centropolis banner, while Kloser will produce through Street Entertainment. Wang, James Wang, J.P. Pettinato, Marco Shepherd, Ute Emmerich, Carsten Lorenz, and Stuart Ford will serve as executive producers.
Berry’s latest project is her directorial debut film Bruised, which she also stars in. The actress also appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
Berry is represented by WME and Management 360.
