- Ewan McGregor confirms he will be voicing Jiminy Cricket in Guillermo Del Toro’s 'Pinocchio.'
After being revealed in February that actor Ewan McGregor would have a role in Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio, McGregor spilled the beans in a recent interview with ACE Comic-Con confirming he will voice Jiminy Cricket.
The actor confirmed that majority if the dialogue had been recorded, presumably before the pandemic hit, but some more work is still to be done.
“And of course, it’s stop-frame animation, so it’s going to take them a great long time to make that film,” McGregor said. “But my first part of that, which is recording his dialogue, is sorta done. There may or may not be a song that needs to be recorded. I’m not sure I’m at liberty to discuss that.”
Del Toro has been working on the stop-motion animation film for years due to the long process. Netflix purchased the idea in 2018 and is scheduled for a 2021 release but the date will remain to be seen due to the COVID-19 pandemic halting productions.
McGregor has been part of iconic movies including Moulin Rouge and playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. Disney+ is developing a show surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi, where he will reprise his role.
