E! and Peacock have announced the premiere dates for the first two projects from the previously announced deal between Jimmy Fallon and NBCUniversal. E!’s Clash of the Cover Bands will premiere Wednesday, October 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, and Peacock’s The Kids Tonight Show will launch Thursday, October 14.
The deal marks the next chapter for Fallon as he embarks on creating one-of-a-kind series and specials across NBCUniversal through his production company, Electric Hot Dog, whose overall deal is with Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group. Fallon and Jim Juvonen run the company, where the focus is on family, comedy, music, and hot dogs.
Clash of the Cover Bands is a half-hour series is hosted by Stephen “tWitch” Boss with Meghan Trainor, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Adam Lambert and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Ester Dean serving as celebrity judges. The competition brings together the best of the best cover bands from across the country to celebrate music and the art of performance across all genres. In each of the 10 half-hour episodes, two bands of similar musical genre (e.g., Pop Divas, ’80s icons, kings of country, platinum icons, rock legends, etc.) go head-to-head over the course of two rounds to see which band has the most entertaining cover performance, with a chance to win a cash prize of $10,000 and bragging rights. At the end of the season, one winner will be crowned with a chance to take home a big cash prize of $25,000 and set to appear in the studio for a musical performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Artists covered in its inaugural season include Aretha Franklin, Blink 182, Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Cher, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Foo Fighters, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Ozzy Osbourne, Poison, Tim McGraw, Tina Turner, and U2.
The series is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Electric Hot Dog with Jimmy Fallon, Jim Juvonen, Natasha Brugler and Kelley Parker serving as executive producers.
The Kids Tonight Show, executive produced by Fallon, is a new late-night series hosted by an ensemble of four amazingly talented and quick-witted kids, this is the show where the kids are in charge. Shooting in Studio 6A at 30 Rock, across the hallway from Fallon’s own Studio 6B, the show is an all-new late-night series that will offer a unique kid’s lens on the iconic series The Tonight Show. Viewers will get next-generation interpretations of all the beloved Fallon bits, celebrity interviews, and signature late-night fun for kids and the whole family.
The series will feature four brilliant kid hosts – Recker Eans, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Olivia Perez and Young Dylan – who will deliver monologues, interview guests, play games, and completely run the show. Kid writer Mykey Cooper will bring a young and fresh voice to the writers’ room each episode, joining the writing team led by head writer Brian McCann.
