Disney’s First Latina Princess ‘Elena of Avalor’ to Be Crowned Queen in Final Chapter of the Series

  • Disney Junior's 'Elena of Avalor' is closing its final chapter with a primetime special and ultimate test of Elena's courage and character before becoming queen to air August 23.

Disney’s first Latina princess is soon to be crowned queen as Disney Junior brings Elena of Avalor to a close with Elena of Avalor: Coronation Day primetime finale special in late August.

The Emmy Award-winning animated series was created around the diverse Latin cultures and folklore. The story follows the brave and adventurous Elena enchanted fairytale kingdom of Avalor from an evil sorceress. Elena’s journey led her to understand how to lead with thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion. The series aired in over 150 countries worldwide and has logged over 300 episodes since its debut in July 2016.

“It has been a tremendous honor for me to bring Disney’s first Latina princess to the screen. Everyone involved with Elena of Avalor, from the creative team to the unbelievable cast and crew, felt the responsibility to get this right,” said creator and executive producer Craig Gerber. “We created the character of Elena with the hope that she would be a role model, not just for young Latina girls watching, but for all children to be able to see what a true leader looks like. From the beginning, Elena’s story arc has been that she would one day become queen. With the series finale, the creative team has been able to bring Elena’s story to the thrilling conclusion that we always envisioned. I can’t wait for viewers to see the final chapter in Elena’s epic adventure.”

The special finds coronation plans underway, while Esteban’s team of villains unleash legendary spirit misfits, the Four Shades of Awesome. In order to save her kingdom, her family and her friends, Elena must journey to the Spirit World and back and face the ultimate test of her courage and character before becoming queen.

Jenny Slate (Muppet Babies, Big Mouth), Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise), Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven) guest star as the Four Shades of Awesome, and Patrick Warburton (The Tick”) voices Grand Macaw, ruler of the dark side of the Spirit World.

The primetime finale will also feature returning guest voice cast members Jaime Camil, Mario Lopez, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Gina Rodriguez, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Justina Machado, Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, John Leguizamo, Cheech Marin, Whoopi Goldberg, Cloris Leachman, Chrissie Fit, Tyler Posey, Kether Donohue, Nestor Carbonell, Andrea Navedo, Eden Espinosa, Ana Ortiz, Gina Torres and Gaby Moreno.
