- "Prop Culture" will debut on Disney Plus on May 1st.
Disney Plus will be debuting a new show, “Prop Culture” which will take a look at iconic props from the Walt Disney Archives, according to Entertainment Weekly. Eight new episodes will drop at once on Disney Plus on May 1st.
“Prop Culture” gives fan an inside look at the archives and the iconic costumes, set designs, music, and of course, props from the films “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Mary Poppins,” “Tron,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “The Muppet Movie,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe,” and “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids.”
Host and collector Dan Lanigan will guide each episode and will talk with the people behind each item and their meaning behind it. It’s not just about the prop themselves but also about the passion of those who make them come to life.
Lanigan tells Entertainment Weekly how the show came to be saying, “I had been working in television production for a while. All the while, I’ve been collecting original props and costumes and movie ephemera/memorabilia for well over 20 years. I felt like there were a lot of people that did a lot of amazing work that weren’t getting the light shined on them. I thought wouldn’t it be great to do a show that celebrated them. Even though the show is called Prop Culture and our way into the show are these artifacts, it’s really about the people that are behind them.”
“Prop Culture” is one of the few Disney Plus shows that will release their episodes all at once. With its other original content, Disney Plus would release an episode per week.
