The Disneyland Resort has reopened Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure (DCA), allowing Disney fans to shop and dine at its locations. While the rest of the theme park, including rides and attractions, remains closed, this extension will allow Disney to slowly bring people back to the resort.
Disney fans began waiting since 5 a.m. to be able to enter DCA and experience what the shops had to offer. Disney kicked off its holiday season with decorations and new merchandise. Parkgoers will only be able to visit Buena Vista Street restaurants and stores and will not be able to roam around in the rest of the park.
Reaction to the opening has been met with mixed reactions. Fans on Twitter have praised Disney for giving more offerings as some other theme parks had begun doing, while other see the crowds flocking to the park as a reason why Disneyland hasn’t been cleared to open.
Disneyland officials have been embroiled in a back and forth with the state of California. Governor Gavin Newsom has tightened restrictions again which will probably force the park to stay closed until 2021. Knott’s Berry Farm has found a way around restrictions by doing ticketed food events that only allow a specific amount of people into the park. Six Flags Magic Mountain recently announced a holiday drive-in experience. With COVID-19 cases rising, the expansion could be a trial run for Disney as they decide how to operate in the following months.
Disneyland Paris is the only other Disney Park that remains closed while Walt Disney World in Florida, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland have reopened.
