Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and the most successful duo in music history, Daryl Hall & John Oates are celebrating their 1980 hit “You Make My Dreams” which has amassed a monumental 1 billion streams worldwide

As one of the most landmark records in the esteemed Daryl Hall & John Oates catalog also celebrates its 40th birthday, the duo are thrilled the track is still resonating with existing and new fans. 

“When I wrote this song, I had no idea that it would resonate for so long to so many people,” Hall explains.

Although not originally a single release in the UK, “You Make My Dreams” remains an undeniable classic in every sense, a record of ageless relevance and wonder, soundtracking the lives of a new generation of music lovers the world over.

In 2018, it was the UK’s most-streamed song from all the records released in 1980. Daryl Hall & John Oates remain to be a huge inspiration to some of the world’s most successful contemporary artists, from The xx to Kanye West, who have all sampled hits from the formidable duo. One of the most sampled artists today, their impact can be heard everywhere from boy band harmonies to neo-soul to rap-rock fusion. 

“You Make My Dreams” has also appeared on the big screen too, playing its part in some of the most pivotal film moments in cinematic history, appearing in 500 Days of Summer, The Wedding Singer and Dumb & Dumberer amongst many others.

“When this song was released back in the 80’s, who would have ever imagined it would become a cultural touchstone in the mid-2000’s… the groove and sentiment just makes people happy!” said Oates.

In 2014, Daryl Hall and John Oates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it’s an achievement that is matched by their legendary discography, their superstar status and their raft of monster hits spanning five decades.
