Powerhouses Coldplay and BTS have topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their latest collaboration “My Universe.” With its No. 1 debut on the chart, the track proved to be a record-setting song for both bands.
“My Universe” earns BTS its sixth career No. 1 hit and Coldplay its second after 2008’s “Viva La Vida.” It becomes the first collaboration by two lead groups to reach No. 1 in the chart’s history. Co-producer Max Martin also received his own feat by tying George Martin for the most No. 1s on the chart of all time as a producer.
The song also placed at No. 23 on the Alternative Airplay chart, No. 29 on the Adult Pop Airplay, and No. 33 on the Pop Airplay chart.
BTS continues to add achievements to their 8-year trajectory. “My Universe” becomes the group’s sixth No. 1 on the chart in over a span of a year and just over a month becoming the quickest accumulation of No. 1’s since The Beatles who scored six over a year and two weeks, in 1964-66. They become the top artist with the most No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 this decade and tie Ariana Grande and Drake with five career No. 1 debuts.
The groups recently released an acoustic version and the Supernova 7 mix of “My Universe” along with a short documentary about how the song came to life.
Coldplay performed “My Universe” live for the first time at the 2021 Global Citizen Festival in New York City’s Central Park on September 26 where they were joined by BTS onstage virtually appearing at the event from South Korea.
BTS is set to return to the stage for the first time since 2019 in November and December 2021 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
