BTS Make History at the 2021 American Music Awards

Continuing to prove they are the ones to watch, BTS made history once again at the 2021 American Music Awards (AMAs) by becoming the first Korean act to take home the Artist of the Year award. The group also won Favorite Pop Duo Or Group and Favorite Pop Song for “Butter.”

The feat comes full circle for the septet who made their US TV debut at the AMAs in 2017 with a performance of their song “DNA.”

“Four years ago, we had our first ever TV live performance on this stage, AMAs, it was “DNA”. We were too excited and nervous at the time and it’s been a long and amazing ride since then, but nobody could have ever bet on the awesome (honor) of standing here and receiving this award – except you, ARMY,” shared RM during their acceptance speech. “Seven boys from Korea united by a love for music met the love and support from all the ARMYs all over the world. This whole thing is a miracle. Seriously, we’ll never take this for granted. Thank you so much.”

The show also featured a performance by Bad Bunny, who won Favorite Male Latin Artist, alongside Tainy and a virtual Julieta Venegas. Favorite Female Latin Artist went to Becky G who honored her roots in her bilingual thank you speech. Taylor Swift broke the record for the most AMA wins by scooping two awards for Favorite Female Pop Artist and Favorite Pop Album for evermore.

Hosted by Cardi B, the ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
