BTS’ Live Virtual Concert ‘Map of the Soul ON:E’ Draws in Close to 1 Million Viewers Worldwide

  • “The ARMYs I know and the BTS you all know, we’re all strong.”

Big Hit Entertainment announced today that nearly 1 million viewers united over the weekend to watch K-pop superstars BTSMAP OF THE SOUL ON:E live online concert. The mega production drew in close to 993,000 viewers streaming from 191 countries and territories on October 10 and 11.

“The ARMYs I know and the BTS you all know, we’re all strong,” RM said to fans during the live concert. “We’ll find a way, we always have. If there’s no way, let’s draw the map – the whole map – again.”

Like many artists affected by the pandemic, BTS had to cancel their global tour for their album Map of the Soul: 7, which was released early this year. The agency had to adapt to the current climate due to COVID-19 to unite the group’s loyal fans, known as ARMY, from their homes with the band on stage, as they performed tracks from their early beginnings, such as their debut song “No More Dream” and “DNA”, to band solos that were infused with personal intimate stories and styles from the Map of the Soul series. The setlist also included their most recent chart-topping single “Dynamite”, a gift meant for ARMY during these trying times.

“You’re not here but I feel you here, as if I can hear your chants, and next time let’s really be here together,” vocalist V, or Kim Tae-hyung, told fans.

Big Hit introduced the ARMY on air system and livestreamed the faces of some fans over screens installed on stage for the group to connect, interact, and hear ARMY on air. The live online concert utilized AR (Augmented Reality) and XR (Extended Reality) to crate the inclusive experience, and allowed viewers to stream in multi-view from six different angles to enhance their viewing concert experience. A delayed streaming or re-broadcast of the live concert was available for ticket holders to enjoy the performances for one last time.

“This concert has given us such a mix of emotions. We first began as seven members with a small dream,” the band shared as the concert was coming to an end. “While waving flags of different colors, speaking different languages, and singing our own stories, we’ll keep marching forward together. BTS is not just the story of seven people. It is the story of you, the story of me, and the story of everyone.”
