- Toby Haynes will direct the first three episodes of the new ‘Star Wars’ prequel spinoff for Disney+.
Haynes will replace Tony Gilroy, who was set to direct the spinoff series while serving as executive producer and showrunner. Gilroy decided to let Haynes helm the project for the first three episodes due to COVID-19 related travel reasons, as Gilroy lives in New York and production shoots would take place in the UK, sources tell Deadline.
The untitled spinoff is based on Rogue One‘s Rebel agent Cassian Andor, who is played by Diego Luna. The series is described as a “spy thriller” and follows Andor’s early days of rebellion against the Empire prior to the events of Rogue One.
Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor along with Alan Tudyk returning to play K-2S0, Andor’s sidekick. The series will also star Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller.
Pre-production of the untitled Star Wars spinoff series for the streamer will begin filming next month.
Haynes is repped by WME and by Joe Phillips at Curtis Brown in the UK.
