Apple TV+ new animated comedy Central Park made its debut Friday with a star-studded cast and a song at the heart of the original musical series that features original songs penned by Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, Cyndi Lauper, Alan Menken, Aimee Mann, Meghan Trainor, and series writers Kate Anderson, Elyssa Samsel and Brent Knopf. The music, theater and film communities also united to contribute to the original songs, which include Anthony Hamilton, Darren Criss, Rafael Casal, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Tony nominee Glenn Slater.
The animated musical comedy stars the Tillermans, a biracial family that lives in Central Park. Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.), the park manager, and Paige (Kathryn Hahn), his journalist wife, and their kids Molly (Kristen Bell) and Cole (Tituss Burgess) live in the world’s most famous park, while fending off a hotel heiress, Bitsy Brandenham (Stanley Tucci) and her long-suffering assistant Helen (Daveed Diggs), who would love nothing more than to turn the park into condos.
Each episode of the series will include 3 to 6 original songs. The soundtrack for the first two episodes that premiered exclusively on Apple TV+ have been released to streaming services, and includes Bareilles’ song from episode 2, “Weirdos Make Great Superheroes.”
Central Park was created, written and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Loren Bouchard (Bob’s Burgers), alongside Grammy Award-winner Josh Gad (Frozen) and Emmy Award winner Nora Smith (Bob’s Burgers). Sanjay Shah and Halsted Sullivan also serve as executive producers. The series hails from 20th Century Fox Television. The voice cast of Central Park includes Josh Gad, Leslie Odom, Jr., Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Tituss Burgess, Daveed Diggs and Stanley Tucci.
