Multihyphenate Ángel M. Vera, popularly known as “El Guru” is hosting the new MLB Originals Series En Curva. The first episode is now available on the MLB channel.
En Curva is a new series that pairs Latinx celebrities with MLB players to help work on their skills and get personal about what keeps them inspired and motivated. The debut episode features J Balvin and Mets All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor.
In the inagural episode, El Guru uses his persuasive and charismatic personality to get J Balvin and Francisco Lindor to connect in ways they wouldn’t have thought possible. From learning the choreography to J Balvin’s “In The Ghetto,” to useful batting tips, the Colombian superstar and the Puerto Rican athlete realized they had much more in common than they thought.
“When I was a little kid I wanted to be a baseball player so bad. Life took me in other directions, but once again I’ve found my way to the MLB, this time around in a venture that speaks to both my passions: baseball and music,”El Guru said. “I am beyond excited to have partnered with MLB to continue promoting our culture and I feel honored that the league understood my work with Rapetón, Rapetón Approved, Apple Music’s La Fórmula and beyond, and found I was the right person to host this series of shows. I could not be happier to do it and will do so with all the respect our community deserves.”
Ángel M. Vera, popularly known as “El Guru” is a renowned figure in the Latin urban music movement. As the Founder & CEO of the leading urban music media platform, Rapetón, and the host of Apple Music’s radio show, La Fórmula, he is known for his ongoing contributions to the Latin Trap movement and the culture.
In 2012, El Guru noticed a lack of media representation of urban music’s established and emerging Latin artists. He believed there should be a space to highlight the Latinx voices who were evolving the culture through music. As a result, he tasked himself to bridge the gap between mainstream media and Latin urban music by creating what is now known as Rapeton.com, the only publication that is completely dedicated to delivering reggaetón news.
Along with uplifting Urbano music, his ongoing initiative also aims to positively influence and progress the Latin community. Last year, he teamed up with Yandel for game-changing alliance Rapetón Approved, which provides professional support to new and upcoming talents, giving them the appropriate exposure and structure to make their musical dreams a solid reality.
